Betty White's Biggest Regret: Not Marrying Love of Her Life Sooner

By    |   Thursday, 26 March 2015 05:41 PM EDT

Betty White looked back on her 93 years of life and told Oprah her biggest regret was keeping her husband, Allen Ludden, waiting for a year after he asked her to get married.

To Oprah’s question, “Any big regrets,” White answered: “That I spent a whole year, wasted a whole year, that Allen and I could have had together, saying no, I wouldn’t marry him. No, I won’t. No, I won’t leave California. No, I won’t move to New York. I wasted a whole year we could have had together. But we made it. We finally did.”

The popular comedian, who has won seven Emmys, was married to Ludden from 1963 until he died in 1981.

Her Oprah interview will air as part of the “Where Are They Now?” series on OWN.

Last year, White talked to The Daily Mail about her two very short marriages, and “the one she got right.”

The paper asked her if there was anything she would change in her life.

“To bring Allen back,” she said. “And I wish I didn't have two bad marriages. They were probably my fault.”

After Ludden died, the Mail said White was firm that she wouldn’t remarry, telling Larry King, “Once you've had the best, who needs the rest?”

White told Piers Morgan that her first two marriages were “rehearsals” for her marriage to Ludden.

"I had 18 wonderful years with Alan Ludden," White told Morgan. “The first two were ... rehearsals," she quipped.
