Benham Brothers: HGTV Pulls Plug on Show for Anti-Gay Views

HGTV has pulled the plug on the Benham brothers' upcoming reality show after the siblings' anti-gay attitudes stirred up controversy this week.

Twins David and Jason Benham were slated to premiere their HGTV show "Flip It Forward" in the fall, but the network nixed the series Wednesday after a RightWingWatch.org article detailed the brothers' political past.

The Benham brothers — sons of Flip Benham, who headed an anti-abortion clinic protest group called Operation Save America — reportedly have strong anti-gay, anti-Muslim, and anti-abortion beliefs.

According to USA Today, David Benham protested outside the 2012 Democratic National Convention and told a conservative radio show that he was campaigning to "stop homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation" and "demonic ideologies taking our universities and our public school systems."

Jason Benham reportedly helped organize the protest, David Benham said at the time.

The brothers released a statement Thursday morning addressing the cancellation of their HGTV show.

"Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying," the statement read. "Over the last decade, we've sold thousands of homes with the guiding principle of producing value and breathing life into each family that has crossed our path, and we do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views."

"We were saddened to hear HGTV's decision," the Benhams continued. "With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it."

The reality series "Flip It Forward" would have shown the Benhams "leverage their good-natured sibling rivalry to help families find a fixer-upper and transform it into the dream home they never thought they could afford."
