A survey conducted by Monmouth University found more than half of the country says they cannot see President Donald Trump doing anything that would change their mind about him.

About 41 percent of the American public support Trump, while 49 percent say they disapprove of him. Sixty-one percent of those who approve of him say they cannot see the president doing anything that would make them disapprove of him, while 57 percent of those who disapprove of him say the only way they would change their minds about Trump is if he would resign.

Other results from the poll include:

  • Nearly half (49 percent) see it as a good thing if Trump's behavior makes career politicians in Washington feel uncomfortable, while 39 percent say this is a bad thing.
  • 52 percent feel that Trump's treatment of Republicans has made it difficult for them to pass major items on his agenda, compared to 39 percent who disagree his behavior has hampered his legislative program.
  • 53 percent say the president should change the way he behaves toward his GOP colleagues in order to get more things done, while just 35 percent say he should not alter his treatment.
  • Only 25 percent of Americans feel Trump has made progress on draining the swamp.

The poll was conducted over the phone from Aug. 10-14 with 805 U.S. adults.
