President Donald Trump tweeted his congratulations to Democrat Doug Jones after Republican Roy Moore lost in the Alabama Senate election Tuesday night.

Trump originally supported Sen. Luther Strange, R-Ala., in the race, but when Moore won the Republican primary runoff election, Trump announced he would back Moore.

Moore, however, was hit with several sexual misconduct allegations during the final part of his campaign, allegations that date back 40 years. Trump and the Republican Party reaffirmed their support of Moore down the stretch but Jones prevailed.
