Donald Trump was not asking Russia to hack into Hillary Clinton's email when he brought up the subject Wednesday, a campaign spokesperson has confirmed.

Jason Miller said on Twitter Trump was simply saying that if Russia or anyone else already has copies of the 30,000 plus emails Clinton deleted from her private server, they should contact the FBI.

Miller made his point in a series of tweets.

The FBI said earlier this month Clinton should not face criminal charges over her use of a private email system while she was secretary of state under President Barack Obama.

Russia has been implicated as potentially being behind a massive hack of the Democratic National Committee.
