President Donald Trump could name all six members of the Federal Election Commission, according to the Washington Examiner.

He would be the first president to do so since the agency was created in 1975.

Democrat Ann Ravel said she plans to resign, and other commissioners are looking at exiting, retiring, or taking other jobs within the Trump White House, according to the Examiner.

All the current commissioners except Ravel are on expired terms, and Trump could replace them at any time. The commission is split between parties by law, with three Democrats and three Republicans. The president and the Senate leader from the opposing party suggest the names.

Trump cannot choose a Republican to fill the Democrats' allotted seats, but he could choose an independent or moderate.

Donald F. McGahn II, Trump's White House counsel, was an FEC commissioner. He is likely to be helping Trump pick the Republicans for the agency, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell could also help choose, an election law expert told the Examiner.

Commissioner Ellen Weintraub is in the commission on a term that expired a decade ago, and has requested that Trump show proof about his claims of voter fraud.

After a nonprofit said her request was inappropriate, Weintraub said she would not be silenced, according to CNN.
