Tom DeLay: Rep. John Lewis 'Didn't Learn Anything' From Civil Rights Era

Rep. John Lewis, whose spat with Donald Trump has triggered a Democratic boycott of the president-elect's inauguration, has not learned anything from the civil-rights movement and does not share some of the same values as Martin Luther King, former House majority leader Tom Delay told Newsmax TV.

"John Lewis he's given a lot of credit for his civil rights and voting rights work that he did 50 years ago, but he didn't learn anything from it," DeLay, a Texas Republican, told "America Talks Live" host Steve Malzberg.

"He didn't learn anything from Martin Luther King, who was a godly man and talked about God and values and those kinds of things . . . because Martin Luther King was pro-life. Martin Luther King could be called a Republican to be honest with you."

More than 50 Democrats in the House say they will skip the inauguration following Trump tweet Lewis is "all talk, talk, talk" after the congressman claimed Trump's election was illegitimate.

DeLay is not losing sleep over the boycott.

"I just love this," DeLay told Malzberg. "The more they make fools of themselves, the better off we are as a country. Remember all these 46 or 40-some odd that are boycotting, we used to call them 'Red Square.'

"These are the most liberal of the liberal of the leftists in the House of Representatives. The American people in this last election, and frankly in the last three elections, have completely rejected who they are and what they are.

"The more they do this kind of stuff, the better off we are. So keep at it. I hope they interview every one of them, all . . . of them after Trump is sworn in."

Trump took to Twitter to pooh-pooh Lewis' plans to skip his swearing-in:

DeLay is the author of "Revival! Revolution! Rebirth!" written with Wallace Henley and published by WND Books.
