Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was at a dinner with several conservatives Tuesday night as he plots his political future in the wake of his failed presidential bid.
The dinner,
according to The Hill, took place at the home of conservative writer and activist Brent Bozell in Virginia.
Part of the agenda was to discuss a future presidential run by Cruz, who
suspended his 2016 campaign in early May with Donald Trump holding an insurmountable lead in the primary vote.
The Hill reports that many high-profile conservatives were there, including Heritage Foundation president Jim DeMint, Club for Growth president David McIntosh, direct mail expert Richard Viguerie, NRA board member and former Cincinnati mayor Ken Blackwell, and Marjorie Dannenfelser, the Susan B. Anthony List president.
Many of the guests, according to the report, want Cruz to run for president again. They compared his runner-up finish to Trump in primary voting to Ronald Reagan's 1976 bid that fell short.
"There was just discussion of the future of the movement and the future of Ted Cruz as the leader of the movement," Bozell told The Hill about what took place at the dinner.
Bozell, the founder of the Media Research Center, said the conversation had nothing to do with Trump.
"It wasn't a function of ignoring [Trump] or he wasn't worth our time…There were people in that room who've taken different positions on this race. You've got the Never Trump and you've got people who are for Trump in that room," he said.
"I wanted to keep the focus on the future of the movement and Ted Cruz."
Cruz said last week
"time will tell" whether or not he endorses Trump for president.
