President Donald Trump reportedly suggested to congressional leaders Tuesday the use of solar panels to pay for his wall on the U.S. border with Mexico.
Leaders were not clear why Trump broached the subject, Politico reported, citing "three people familiar with the conversation."
Trump "didn't express certainty that it would happen," according to the report, but said "he'd heard it as a possible idea and wanted to see what others thought."
The suggestion also comes amid the fallout from President Trump's decision last week to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement.
Trump has insisted Mexico will pay for the border wall – and the budget proposal unveiled last month included $1.6 billion for the structure for fiscal 2018.
