The DeVos and Van Andel families, two of the most powerful and wealthy lineages in Michigan Republican circles, have endorsed presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Politico reports.

A dozen DeVos and Van Andel family members, founders of Amway, released a statement describing the former Massachusetts governor as a “leader who stands for economic freedom, hope and opportunity.”

Dick and Betsy DeVos represent the two biggest names among the endorsers. She’s a former state Republican Party chairwoman, and he was the GOP nominee for governor in 2006.

“Because of Mitt’s vision to address the critical issues of today and his track record as a proven, thoughtful leader, we are pleased to join other West Michigan leaders in adding our support for his campaign for President,” the statement says.

“This country needs a leader like Mitt who has the courage and experience to find long-term solutions that address our current economic challenges and strengthen this country’s sense of optimism, competitiveness and prosperity — and ultimately the quality of life for our citizens.”
