A fundraiser for the joint Donald Trump-Republican National Committee turned in his resignation after the party squashed the effort for a floor vote that would have allowed delegates to vote their consciences, The Hill reports.

Gary Emineth joined the committee just recently, and previously served as chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party. He told The Hill he was disgusted by the party not allowing a floor vote and texted his resignation to RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.

"I was on the Trump finance committee and I just resigned because that bully tactic is absurd," he said. "I just texted them right now. Why can’t the people be heard? I've been texting Reince for 10 minutes. He said we didn't have the votes. We had 10, 11 states. They peeled people back. They were calling delegations asking people to step off the committee. You don't do this in America. You do this in other countries."

Delegates Unbound needed majorities from at least seven delegations to bring the vote to the floor. They claim 10 or 11, though the RNC says only nine petitions were received, and three states backed out, putting the number to six.

Emineth and others say the party colluded with the Trump campaign to coerce delegates to rescind their signatures.

"If that's how they're doing the Republican Party, they can have it," Emineth told The Hill. He said Priebus should resign.
