Mitt Romney to Host GOP Candidates at Utah Summit

By    |   Thursday, 07 May 2015 09:42 PM EDT

Republican Mitt Romney, who came up short on presidential bids in 2008 and 2012, will reportedly host GOP hopefuls for president at a Utah summit next month.

According to The Washington Post, Romney's 2015 E2 Summit is scheduled for June 11-13 at Deer Valley Resort in Park City.

According to the Post, among the confirmed speakers for the event are Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who is expected to join the race, was invited to the summit but will not attend, reports the Post.

The Post obtained a copy of the invitation to the summit, the fourth time Romney has put on the gathering.

"The format will be similar to that of the past, with speakers on a range of topics throughout the day and outdoor enthusiast activities each morning and Saturday afternoon," Romney's former national finance chairman Spencer Zwick writes in the invitation, according to the Post.

According to the Post, other confirmed speakers for the event include Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), American Enterprise Institute president Arthur Brooks, journalist Katie Couric, former defense secretary Robert Gates, former treasury secretary Lawrence H. Summers, and former Obama adviser David Axelrod.

Romney was rumored to be debating whether to join the 2016 campaign for president, but he announced in January that he would not be running.

"After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I've decided it is best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee," he said at the time.

Romney, however, has not faded into the background in these early days of the campaign. He has criticized Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton several times in recent weeks, on topics ranging from her decision to conduct her campaign as a "woman of the people" to the unrest in Baltimore.

Thus far, Clinton is the only confirmed candidate on the left. On the Republican side, Cruz, Rubio, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former neurosurgeon Ben Carson, and former business executive Carly Fiorina are in the race.
