House Republicans want nothing to do with convicted felon Michael Grimm, and they aren't shy in their message to the ex-congressman, Politico reported.

Stay in Staten Island.

Grimm, fresh out of prison for tax evasion, is running for his old seat in Staten Island in 2018 against the man who won his vacated seat in a special election, Rep. Dan Donovan.

"I just think it's difficult for someone who copped a plea and went to jail for tax evasion to have credibility with colleagues," Rep. Pat Tiberi told Politico. "He'd be a big distraction here on the House floor."

"I support Dan Donovan — plain and simple," House Speaker Paul Ryan said.

Grimm says he has the enthusiastic support of former chief strategist Stephen Bannon, and a former adviser to President Donald Trump's campaign, Michael Caputo, is helping Grimm with his campaign.

Both Grimm and Donovan are positioning themselves as besties to Trump, both hoping to get the endorsement from the president.

Donovan's short record reflects a mixed bag in his support of Trump's policies, having sided with the president on immigration, but rebuffed the president on law enforcement in New York City and the defunding of Planned Parenthood.

"It would be a difficulty" if Trump backed Donovan, Caputo said. "But I don't expect the president to do that."
