Gohmert 'Shocked' by Details on Former Wasserman Schultz IT Aide

Rep. Louie Gohmert was "shocked" when he learned further details about ex-Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's fired IT aide, Imran Awan, during an informal informational meeting held earlier this week on Capitol Hill.

"The people we asked to show up came because we can't compel the FBI or somebody like that to come at a gathering like this was, because it was not a formal hearing," the Texas Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program Thursday. "We were just, you know, wanting to gather information and hopefully our leadership would become more interested because this is serious stuff."

The meeting, sponsored by the Taxed Enough Already [TEA] Caucus, brought caucus members together to hear information about the Awan affair, and a Gohmert spokeswoman said all who were invited to the informal meeting attended.

Awan has been indicted on four counts, including bank fraud and making false statements.

"He has been working on Capitol Hill for 12 years or so," Gohmert said. "He has worked for at least 62 different Democratic members, and one fired him pretty quickly for incompetence."

Gohmert continued that salaries are limited on the Hill, and when Awan hit up against his maximum salary of $160,000, "he would get another family member enrolled and they would start making and then they would max out around $160,000, and he would get another. He got up to five family members, friends anyway, it's really unclear who did the computer work for these different folks."

He said he was "shocked" to find out that there were times Awan would spend three months or more in Pakistan, but he'd "operate and work on our computers here on Capitol Hill remotely from Pakistan."

"I'm not really trusting in the Pakistani internet," the Texas congressman added.

Awan also had access to passwords, Gohmert said.

"Wikileaks emails showed that some of the Democratic National Committee workers were going 'Hey, we need Debbie Wasserman Schultz's password to get into iPad,'" Gohmert said. "'Check with Awan he knows all of them.'"
