President Donald Trump won't let "nut job" North Korean President Kim Jong-un develop a nuclear weapon that can reach the United States, Sen. Lindsey Graham said Tuesday.
"I had dinner with the president last night, a great dinner," the South Carolina Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program. "I am impressed with his commander in chief skills here. He won't let this nut job in North Korea develop a missile with a nuclear weapon on top to hit America. He doesn't want a war any more than I do, but he won't let them get a missile. That's where they're headed. China needs to up their game to stop this before it's too late. "
Graham said there are two ways to stop a missile from happening, either through military force or diplomacy, using China, and he prefers diplomacy, and military action should be a last resort.
"Here is what I believe," Graham said. "I believe if they had a nuclear weapon on top of it that could reach America, they may use it."
Graham said he, Sen. John McCain, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford, during their dinner with Trump Monday, discussed Trump's plans for rebuilding the military, and told Fox News the president has already done a great deal concerning the North Korea situation.
"President Trump's relationship with China is the key," said Graham ."They have done more in the past two weeks to push back against North Korea, stopping coal shipments, even maybe using the U.N. to sanction North Korea, than they've done in the last 25 years."
As a result, it's clear Trump won't allow North Korea to develop an intercontinental missile that will reach the United States.
"I think the senators will hear that tomorrow night, and I hope the senators will understand that if nothing changes, Kim Jong-un will have that capability soon," Graham said.
Graham said it was also "music to my ears" to hear Trump talking about giving the military what it needs to do its job.
"We'll have a bigger Navy, Army and Air Force and use it wisely and unleash the American military against ISIL with no holds barred," said Graham. "If you're North Korea and betting Donald Trump is all talk and no action, you are making a serious mistake."
