Kellyanne Conway: US Wasting 'Tens of Millions' on Russia Probe

Fox News' "Fox & Friends"

The United States is "starting to waste tens of millions" of taxpayers' dollars on the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race and possible collusion with President Donald Trump's campaign team, and if there's something there, it's time to hear about it, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said Monday.

"Let the investigation go forward," Conway said on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" of the investigation, being led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel. "What are we talking about here really when the president is trying to move on with the policies and the solutions of the day?"

Conway said she believes the matter to be part of the Democratic resistance against Trump's presidency, and an obstruction to him.

She also said she agrees with one of Trump's attorneys, Jay Sekulow, who commented over the weekend about one of the president's tweets, in which he seemed to state that he is under investigation.

"He is not under investigation," said Conway. "There is no collusion. It's a witch hunt. He has made very clear that we have had months and months and months of investigation on top of the FBI, several House and Senate committees investigating the same thing."

She went on to urge the program to "look at the irony here" about Trump's tweet.

The matter, Conway said, is "all conclusion in search of evidence, it seems. The president has a right to respond. He has a right to defend himself this way."

She said she also agrees that information about the makeup of Mueller's investigative staff should be made public, considering there are several appointees who have given money to Democratic candidates, including Bill and Hillary Clinton.

"If we are going to talk about transparency and accountability and all the players here, I think it's relevant that people know that Mr. Mueller's team includes folks who gave significant amounts of money," said Conway. "One person, I read, gave more money than a single mom makes in over a year just to Hillary Clinton ... that's relevant information for people to have."
