Ivanka Trump recently touted Republicans' tax cut legislation by citing data from the Obama administration that called for increased federal spending for young children, The Washington Post reports.

A guest earlier this month on Fox News, Ivanka, a senior adviser in her father's administration, lauded Republicans for what their tax bills would do for working families paying for childcare, but then threw in data from a white paper commissioned during President Barack Obama's administration that was out of context to her point:

"We spend less than any country in the developed world on children between the ages of zero and 5. It's just a fact, we don't invest enough resources," Ivanka told Fox's Tucker Carlson, the Post reported.

The White House confirmed to the Post that Trump was citing a 2016 brief from the Council of Economic Advisers that touted increased spending — not cuts — on programs for pre-kindergarten children.

However, the Republican tax plans would not increase spending for kids ages zero to 5, but rather increase taxes on 40 percent of families with children, the Post reported.
