Donald Trump's Republican presidential campaign staff is paying men on its staff one-third more than women,
according to an analysis by the Boston Globe.
On the other hand, Hillary Clinton's Democratic presidential campaign has paid men and women on her staff equally, according to the Globe.
The newspaper analyzed payroll information for April 2016, the most recent month available. Trump's women on staff made about $4,500 in April, while men made almost $6,100. The difference is about the same as the nationwide male-female average pay gap.
In Clinton's campaign, the highest-paid woman is Jennifer Palmieri, director of communications. Of the 15 highest-paid employees, eight were men and seven were women.
Republican consultant Kevin Madden said that the pay scale could prove to be a setback amid the party placing women in notable leadership positions.
"If anything, Trump is an aberration even inside the Republican world," Madden said. "For Republicans who have done such a good job putting women in positions of power, the Trump campaign is not a reflection of that."
Clinton has a larger campaign staff than Trump's, with 670 workers who made at least $1,000 in April. Their total pay was $2.5 million. Trump has 113 campaign employees, with total pay of $635,000.
Pay inequality and women at work have been discussed often during the Clinton and Trump campaigns.
In April, Clinton said, "Last time I checked, there's no discount for being a woman. Groceries don't cost us less,"
according to the Huffington Post.
Trump said in 2015 that he would pay women equally, if they "do as good a job" as men,
according to a report in Fusion.
ABC News posted information from a 1994 interview in which he said he had mixed feelings about women working,
"I have days where I think it's great." Trump said. Then he added that he also has days "when I come home and dinner's not ready, I go through the roof."
