Hillary Clinton owns a 6-point lead over Donald Trump in the crucial swing state of North Carolina, according to the latest Elon University Poll released Tuesday.
The results:
- Clinton: 45 percent;
- Trump: 39 percent;
- Gary Johnson: 9 percent;
- Undecided: 5 percent.
Of those surveyed, 64 percent believe Clinton won the first debate, the likely source of her lift in the poll, according to Elon.
When asked who they thought would win the election, 62 percent surveyed believe Clinton will. The breakdown shows optimism among Republicans in North Carolina is not high:
- Republicans who think Trump will win the election: 50 percent;
- Independents who think Clinton will win the election: 60 percent;
- Democrats who think Clinton will win the election: 82 percent;
- Republicans who think Clinton will win the election: 39 percent.
The Elon Poll surveyed 660 likely voters from Sept. 27-30 and has a margin of error of +/- 3.8 percent with a confidence level of 95 percent.
