Democrat Hillary Clinton's edge with female voters could be what hands her the presidency, Fox News' Brit Hume said during election night coverage.
Clinton is ahead with women by 14 points, according to exit polling, whereas Republican Donald Trump leads with men by 9 points. But, Hume noted, women make up a larger number of the electorate.
"That tells you most of what you may need to know tonight," he said. "And if you win by 9 and the other party wins the women the larger group by 14. It's not too hard to figure this out. That's where this is likely to be."
Hume said, however, that in some states, such as South Carolina, the margin is much closer.
"If you are wondering why Georgia may be in play tonight, that's where you see a genuine gender gap in which Hillary Clinton . . . is winning by 13. He is winning by 19."
