One in four Americans think the biggest problem the nation is facing is government, a new poll found.

The Gallup survey posted Thursday found that 25 percent of those polled put the government at the top of the list of their concerns for June – the highest number since 26 percent of Americans said the same thing in November 2013, in the wake of a partial government shutdown.

According to Gallup, only once in its nearly 80-year history of asking the "most important problem" question has the number been higher than 26 percent – and that was during the Oct. 1-16, 2013, shutdown, when 33 percent of Americans named government as the No. 1 problem.

In other findings, the poll found:

  • 31 percent of Democrats and 24 percent of Republicans cite dissatisfaction with government as the top issue, up from 24 percent and 13 percent, respectively, last month.
  • Americans' mentions of healthcare as the most important U.S. problem declined to 7 percent this month from 18 percent in May.
  • The percentage who say terrorism is the most important problem facing the country rose to 8 percent in June, from 2 percent in May.
  • 19 percent cite an economic issue as the most important problem facing the country, down from 21 percent last month.

The survey's margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
