Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., ripped into the Trump administration for failing to keep lawmakers informed about mysterious attacks in Cuba that have affected two dozen U.S. officials and their spouses, The Hill reported.

Engel is the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He found out by an Associated Press report on Wednesday that doctors treating victims of the attacked discovered brain abnormalities.

"I was also disappointed to once again read about the latest developments in the press rather than being briefed by the State Department," he said.

"The Trump Administration has consistently failed to carry out its duty to brief Congress on these troubling events."

The Cuban government has denied being behind the mysterious attacks, despite an ongoing investigation by the U.S. The attacks appear to have started in late 2016.

The Washington Post reported victims would often hear chirping in their rooms, a low hum or the sound of scraping metal. But there has been no explanation for what the two dozen Americans experienced at the U.S. Embassy in Cuba.

The AP said doctors treating victims discovered changes to the white matter tracts that let different parts of the brain communicate.
