Democratic donors are foreseeing Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., as a future presidential candidate, The Hill is reporting.
"She's running for president. Take it to the bank. She's absolutely going to run," one fundraiser said as Harris was honored at an event in the Hamptons with top donors over the weekend, The Hill reported.
Harris is a freshman African-American senator, and at 52, is offering a new face to the political scene, which the Democrats have been looking for, the website notes.
"There's a big hunger out there for somebody new and different," Bill Carrick, a Democratic consultant for former Rep. Loretta Sanchez, D-Calif., who was Harris' challenger in the last senator race, told The Hill.
"People are looking for champions… she's in that category. There are people who might not know her real well but want to like her. What little they know, they like," Carrick added.
Ben LaBolt, former spokesman for President Barack Obama told The Hill: "Kamala has come to embody what's next for our party."
Harris has been a successful fundraiser for Democrats, recently raising more than $600,000 for Senate candidates, The Hill reported.
"She speaks like an actual human being, and that's an ever-valuable commodity in Washington, D.C. She doesn't pull punches, and that fits the national mood," Ben Wikler, MoveOn Washington Director, told The San Francisco Chronicle.
Harris' team said her focus is on her senator role and on helping Democrats win back seats in Congress. "She's going to leverage every bit of fundraising ability and the attention she's getting to make an impact in 2018," Sean Clegg, Harris' top strategist, told The Hill.
