A family feud continued to heat up Tuesday between the gay daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney and her sister, who is running for political office in Wyoming and opposes same-sex marriage, Politico reported.

In an email to "Freedom Indiana" a group fighting a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in that state, Mary Cheney, a married lesbian, took a jab at her sister Liz, calling her a hypocrite.

"Freedom means freedom for everyone," Mary Cheney wrote in the email. "For me, that’s not just another saying. It’s who I am — the core of what I believe. No one should be denied the fundamental liberties we all deserve."

"Freedom means freedom for everyone" was a reference to a 2009 interview in which Liz Cheney told MSNBC that she was not for gay marriage, but that "my family has been very clear about this, that we think freedom means freedom for everybody," and that the issue should be decided by individual states.

During her GOP campaign for the state Senate seat, Liz Cheney a mother of five, said she believes in a "traditional definition of marriage."

The rest of the email from Mary Cheney read:

"That’s why when I heard about HJR-6 — the proposed constitutional amendment that would permanently ban all protections for same-sex couples and their families — I knew I had to join the powerful bipartisan movement that’s working to stop this anti-freedom amendment."

"Speaking out against HJR-6 isn’t a matter of politics. It’s about family," she added. "It’s about everyone feeling welcome in the state they call home. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to protect my wife, Heather, and our two children. And then I think about the thousands of same-sex couples and their families in Indiana who would be directly impacted by HJR-6, I’m committed to standing together and working across party lines to keep this amendment out of Indiana’s constitution."
