White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Wednesday lauded President Donald Trump for doing more for Capitol Hill bipartisanship "in the last eight days" than former President Barack Obama did in eight years.

At the daily White House briefing, Sanders said the president's planned dinner with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., shows Trump wants to work with "all members of Congress" on tax reform and other legislation if it will help advance his agenda, Axios reported.

"This president has done more for bipartisanship in the last eight days than Obama did in the last eight years," she declared, Axios reported.

"I'm basing that on the fact that he's actually willing to sit down with members of the opposite party, something President Obama rarely did."

Asked why Trump did not invite GOP leaders House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Sanders said the president is already the top representative of the GOP.

"You've got the leader of the Republican Party sitting at the table," she said, Axios reported, adding: "Anybody who thinks the Republican viewpoint isn't being represented is completely misunderstanding that the president is the leader of the Republican Party."
