Anthony Scaramucci's tenure in the White House hasn't hit a full week yet, but the power he has amassed in a short period of time makes one thing quite clear — he is the chief of staff in waiting, The Hill reported.
In less than a week, Scaramucci's Oval Office resume includes:
"This is bad for Priebus," one GOP operative told The Hill. “This is not how it’s supposed to work. The communications guy doesn’t come in and fire staff. Those moves are supposed to be vetted through the chief of staff. It’s unheard of, the amount of power Scaramucci has."
Priebus is "chief of staff in name only and will never get that power back," the operative told The Hill.
Priebus, who had hoped to last a year as chief of staff, has suffered numerous blows to his "organizational clout" once Sean Spicer resigned, marking the third departure of staffers brought in by Priebus, Politico reported.
"His strength was in his people," a White House adviser told Politico. "He didn't have personal clout, he had organizational clout."
Scaramucci insists he's not challenging Priebus, forcing him out or even taking over his duties, despite the fact Priebus was strongly against his hiring.
"I don’t see how it would be usurping the power of the chief of staff when I’m reporting directly to the president,” Scaramucci told The Hill. “There’s other assistants to the president that report directly to the president, so I don’t see that as an issue. Reince and I have no problem getting along."
