David Jeremiah, a pastor and author, praised President Donald Trump's visit to the Western Wall during his trip to Jerusalem.
"As we all pray for the peace of Jerusalem, we pray with greater faith today knowing that the president has prayed there himself, first," Jeremiah wrote in a statement. "By visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, by becoming the first sitting president to visit the Western Wall, by not falling prey to the political status-quo, President Trump is acting with profound political courage."
Jeremiah, pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, Calif., also urged prayers for Trump as the president travels overseas.
"I commend the president and call upon Christians throughout the United States to pray for God's continued blessing on this important journey, especially as he visits the State of Israel," Jeremiah's statement said.
Trump's work on this trip sets up greater possibilities for "a broad and unified coalition throughout the Middle East," the pastor wrote.
The pastor, who founded Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries, read a Bible passage at Trump's inauguration, as Time magazine noted.
"I wish we could have had this renaissance among evangelicals not four months ago, but four years ago," Jeremiah said, per Time. "Evangelicals had a huge part in what just happened."
