Donald Trump could have all the 1,237 first-ballot votes he needs to win the Republican presidential nomination, an analysis by
The Washington Times shows.
Ahead of Indiana's primary vote Tuesday, Trump is short of a majority by a bit over 200 bound delegates allocated to him based on state primaries or caucuses – and would need to win them in the final 10 GOP presidential nomination contests, the
Times analysis shows.
But according to the Times, its analysis understates Trump's probable final tally by as many as many as 78 delegates because it excludes unbound delegates — including those in Pennsylvania and elsewhere — who have said they plan to vote for him.
"In other words, this chart has him over the top even though it counts only delegates he has won outright in various state primaries, caucuses and conventions," the Times reports of its analysis.
Things look even better for Trump in a scenario projected by former Republican National Committee treasurer Randy Pullen, whose state-by-state chart has the front-runner's total haul at 1,315 delegates, according to the Times.
