Twitter reportedly is not ruling out the possibility of banning President-elect Donald Trump from the social media platform if his online conduct gets too unruly.
"The Twitter Rules prohibit violent threats, harassment, hateful conduct, and multiple account abuse, and we will take action on accounts violating those policies," a company spokesperson told Slate magazine when asked if Twitter would potentially ban a government official or Trump himself.
"The Twitter Rules apply to all accounts, including verified accounts," the spokesperson added.
The hardline differs from how the company described its censorship stance four years ago, the Daily Caller noted.
"Generally, we remain neutral as to the content because our general council and CEO like to say that we are the free speech wing of the free speech party," Tony Wang, general manager of Twitter in the U.K., said in 2012 while describing the social media company.
Slate reported, however, the commander-in-tweet will not face those kind of restrictions on Facebook.
Responding to calls for a suspension of Trump's Facebook page after the then-candidate's call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in November it would be inappropriate to interfere with a major-party candidate's political posts.
