Donald Trump said that after hearing speeches at the Democratic National Convention, he wanted to "hit a number of those speakers so hard, their heads would spin."

"They'd never recover," he said during a Davenport, Iowa rally, according to CNN. Trump often used the word "hit," meaning verbally attack. The Republican presidential nominee focused on one speaker, but did not mention his name.

"I was going to hit one guy in particular, a very little guy. I was going to hit this guy so hard his head would spin, he wouldn't know what the hell happened," he said, which earned a laugh from the audience.

Adding that the person had come to him for help in the past and "I solved the problem."

He responded to criticism leveled at him by some of the convention's speakers, including vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine. "He said a lot of things about me. I never met the guy," Trump said.

Trump mentioned New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who spoke at the convention, as one person he wanted to retaliate against, but said a friend talked him out of doing so.

He said his friend was a "very great governor." The GOP nominee added that his governor friend told him to focus on Hillary Clinton, not those beneath her level. "Don't hit down. You have one person to beat," Trump said he was told.

"Every once in a while I still wake up, I say, 'Boy, I want to. Someday," Trump said.

Another piece of advice he got was, "Don't worry about all those people that want to get up and get the spotlight for five minutes, and then they're going to go home and nobody's going to care about them anymore," according to Politico.
