Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas only came in fourth place in a new survey of the "most conservative" senators in the nation.
According to the
National Journal, Republican James Risch of Idaho was the most conservative with GOP Sen. Michael Enzi of Wyoming in second place and Republican Tim Scott of South Carolina third. Republican James Inhofe of Oklahoma came in fifth behind Cruz, also a Republican.
The other 10 most conservative senators, all Republicans, were: John Barrasso of Wyoming, Mike Lee of Utah, Pat Roberts of Kansas, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Mike Crapo of Idaho, Chuck Grassley of Iowa, David Vitter of Louisiana, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, John Cornyn of Texas, and Jeff Sessions of Alabama.
The National Journal ranked members as most conservative or most liberal by analyzing 117 key votes in 2013.
The most liberal senators in the country are Democrats, with Brian Schatz of Hawaii at the top. Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York tied for second with Chris Murphy of Connecticut while Mazie Hirono of Hawaii and Barbara Mikulski of Maryland rounded out the top five.
