As if Monday's explosion of protest inside the Republican National Convention wasn't divisive enough for the party, pro-Ted Cruz delegates are now said to be threatening to stage a mass walkout on Wednesday.

Fox News reports that an ax Cruz supporters are wielding over RNC officials and the Trump campaign is "the specter of a large group of delegates — in the hundreds — simply leaving town" after Cruz addresses the convention on Wednesday night.

That would trigger the embarrassing sight of large blocks of empty seats in the Quicken Loans Arena seen by millions of television viewers. It's an "open question" whether there are enough alternates that could be rounded up to fill so many empties, Fox News adds.

Sources told Fox the RNC and Cruz supporters are trying to hammer out a deal to prevent the walkout.
