President Donald Trump renewed his feud with cable news outlet CNN on Saturday, tweeting the network "has finally been exposed" for its "fake news," calling it "garbage journalism."
CNN anchor Jake Tapper wasted no time in responding to Trump's remark in a series of tweets Saturday, where he criticized the president for spending so much time attacking the media on Twitter, The Hill reported Saturday.
"More than 10% of tweets fr @realDonaldTrump as president have been attacking journalists. Far fewer discussing troops, opioid crisis, Syria," Tapper tweeted, adding, "attacking media does nothing for the troop in harm's way, the hungry child in Appalachia or inner city, the unemployed factory worker."
CNN has been under fire of late when it had to retract a story it had published tying an ally of the president to a Russian investment firm. And, the New York Post reported Friday the network "flew into a panic" after it accidentally showed a fake cover of The National Enquirer in a story Tapper was reporting involving Trump.
Administration officials were also calling for attention to an undercover video of CNN employees panning Trump supporters, as White House aides were trying to contain the dustup surrounding the president's personal attacks on Twitter Thursday against MSNBC's "Morning Joe" cohosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough.
In addition, Trump blasted MSNBC on Saturday for its treatment of news show host Greta Van Susteren, who abruptly left the network on Thursday. The president tweeted the former Fox News host was "let go by her out of control bosses at @NBC & @Comcast because she refused to go along w/ 'Trump hate!'"
