GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has the support of almost 60 percent of Republicans, a new poll shows.
The
NBC News survey released Tuesday breaks down like this:
- Donald Trump: 56 percent
- Texas Sen. Ted Cruz: 22 percent
- Ohio Gov. John Kasich: 14 percent
- Undecided: 7 percent
A month ago, Trump's lead over Cruz was 3 points, NBC News reports.
In the Democratic presidential primary, the survey shows:
- Hillary Clinton: 54 percent
- Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders: 40 percent
- Undecided: 6 percent
The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points for registered Republicans voters, and 1.9 percentage points for Democratic voters.
The survey also shows Trump narrowing the gap on Clinton in a theoretical matchup, with 43 percent of registered voters backing the former secretary of state, while 37 percent support Trump,
NBC News reports.
Cruz tallied 30 percent support when pinned against Clinton, who got 44 percent support.
