Hillary Clinton's support among independent voters is taking a nosedive — and it may be the result of rival Sen. Bernie Sanders's criticism of the Democratic front-runner, The Wall Street Journal
A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll
taken last month shows the Democratic presidential front-runner's favorability rating among independents at 20 percent, compared with 62 percent who viewed her negatively.
In January, the same poll found a 35 percent positive rating and a 54 percent negative tally among independents; a year earlier, she had a 35 percent positive and 39 percent negative rating, the Journal reports.
The Journal reports Sanders, who served in the Senate as an independent before running for president as a Democrat, has had "unexpected popularity" among independent voters, and his attacks on Clinton in recent months may be affecting their views of her.
Meanwhile, the April Journal/NBC poll shows GOP front-runner Donald Trump isn’t well-liked by independents, either, with 19 percent viewing him favorably and 67 percent holding a negative view, the Journal reports.
