Ex-Prosecutor McCarthy: Russia Not a Story When Focus on Dems

The Russia probe is "not much of a story anymore" when the focus is on the Democrats, former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy told Newsmax TV on Monday.

The House Oversight Committee has started to look into the Obama-era deal approved in 2010 that gave Russia control of a large chunk of American uranium, as Fox News reported.

The FBI obtained evidence Russia nuclear officials had taken part in bribery, kickbacks, and extortion designed to increase its atomic energy business inside the United States. The FBI, according to a report in The Hill, had also obtained an eyewitness account Russian officials had sent millions of dollars to the United States designed to help former President Bill Clinton's charitable foundation.

"After a year of Russia, Russia, Russia, hostile, hostile, hostile, enemy, enemy, enemy, collusion, collusion, suddenly it's not much of a story anymore," McCarthy told "Newsmax Now" host Bill Tucker.

The reason?

"Number one, the Obama administration green lighted the acquisition by the Kremlin's nuclear energy arm, their energy company, this Rosatom Company, 20 percent of America's stockpile of uranium," McCarthy said. "That can't be denied. . . . The Justice Department had a prosecutable racketeering and extortion case against the American subsidiary of that very Russian conglomerate at the very time that the Obama administration was weighing whether to prove this transfer of assets or not."

Even more concerning, McCarthy said, is former Attorney General Eric Holder sat on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States with Hillary Clinton, an important piece of information as the FBI, which had an active investigation into Rosatom's American arm, reports to the attorney general.

"[The FBI] had a provable racketeering case at that moment," McCarthy said.

"So you know the Obama officials involved commerce national security and foreign policy signed off on this acquisition by Russia, which ends up yielding for Russia billions of dollars in uranium holdings," he added.
