The problem with the forthcoming Fox show "Lucifer" is that it glorifies evil, executive vice president of the American Family Association, Ed Vitagliano, tells
Newsmax TV.
"It is being portrayed as a fantasy, but we believe that Satan is real, and in a culture that increasingly is having a hard time distinguishing between good and evil, this is a program we think . . . glorifies evil, and at the very least shows the power of evil as something to take lightly," Vitagliano told Ed Berliner on
Newsmax TV's "MidPoint" on Friday.

"Maybe there is a place for human beings that are anti-hero, that might have a redemptive turn in their lives," he explained. "We understand that can be a very powerful plot device, but when you're talking about the singular evil personage in human history and in this world today, there is nothing redemptive in the Devil, and he shouldn't be portrayed as kind of a roguish likable character."
"That's what the show seems to do," he said.
Vitagliano says that the AFA doesn't plan to call for a boycott of the program, but that it does plan to contact advertisers to discourage them from allowing their advertisements to appear when "Lucifer" airs.
"They sometimes don't even know which shows their ads are going to appear on, so we're going to give them the opportunity to drop 'Lucifer,'" he said.
"Lucifer" is slated to be released in 2016. It's a show about the devil, who decides to leave Hell and take up residence in Los Angeles.
AFA is among other groups that are protesting against the group, which has launched a petition against the show,
gaining more than 130,000 signatures so far.
