Pollster John Zogby thinks Mike Pence brings "midwestern cred" to Donald Trump's presidential campaign as his running mate.
During an interview on
Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Prime," Zogby told host J.D. Hayworth Pence was a good pick in the idealogical sense.
"He brings a good reputation and stability. He also is in the heart of the Midwest," Zogby said. "Indiana is a bifurcated state but it's next door to Ohio, it's close to Michigan. There's a lot of Indiana that's a tad like Pennsylvania.
"So there's a Midwestern cred and sensibility that I think he brings to it. But you know conservatives were dis-unified long before Donald Trump came into the picture are now with Mike Pence as a running mate, and at some point conservatives have to ask themselves the question, do they really want to win or do they want ideological purity?
"The ideological pure seldom get elected and it's very narrow, the opportunity. The only potential is that it appears that Hillary Clinton is so bad right now."

Zogby added that the Republican party needs to "build itself up and all I'm hearing right now is disconnection and disaffection."
Trump officially named Pence, Indiana's Republican governor, as his running mate Friday morning via Twitter.
