The problems plaguing the Veteran's Administration healthcare system are a terrifying preview of what could befall the Affordable Care Act, says health policy expert Sally Pipes, president of the Pacific Research Institute.
"It's a microcosm of what is going to happen to our healthcare system if we do not get it back on track and get away from allowing the federal government to take over our healthcare system,'' Pipes told "The Steve Malzberg Show'' on Newsmax TV.

Pipes, who was born in Canada, said the government-subsidized healthcare system there has been a disaster with long waiting lists and rationed care. Similar woes have hit the United Kingdom.
The Veteran's Administration is embroiled in a scandal in which agency officials allegedly created secret waiting lists for chronically-ill military veterans — an act that may be responsible for at least 40 deaths.
Pipes, whose group is a California-based, conservative think-tank, said President Barack Obama's ambitions go way beyond what the Affordable Care Act is now.
"His long-term goal is … to go to a single payer Medicare for all and he'll say, well you know we tried the competitive marketplace, it didn't work therefore we need single payer,'' she said.
Pipes is disheartened at the lack of GOP pushback when it comes to attempting to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
"It's disappointing that a lot of the members of the GOP are afraid to talk about Obamacare. I don't know why; they need to raise it for the election this fall. It's huge and we have to stand up and be counted on it,'' she said.
"Fifty-three percent of Americans still today would like to see this legislation repealed and replaced. So let's look at what the American people think.''
The GOP, she added, must rally around one plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, instead of trying to dismantle it piece by piece.
"[They must] get together and tell the American people what it is that they're going to do for them to achieve affordable, accessible, quality care,'' Pipes said. "They've got to rally around.''
