Economics Prof.: Obamacare Will Make 'Economy Smaller'

Wednesday, 25 June 2014 06:22 PM EDT

The Affordable Care Act will eventually push the United States into a new recession, says Dr. Casey Mulligan, a professor of economics at The University of Chicago.

"Obamacare is going to eventually make the economy smaller,'' Mulligan told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"I can't tell you when it's going to happen, but if you're going to go to a lower level, you have to go downhill for some period of time.''

He urged Republicans to provide alternatives to the Affordable Care Act.

"You want to start from square one. There are ways to improve the healthcare sector,'' he said.
