Donald Trump's first trip to the Middle East as president has been a "massive success" on many levels, his former political adviser Sam Nunberg told Newsmax TV.

"First of all, you have our president for the first time ever flying from Saudi Arabia to Jerusalem," Nunberg, an attorney, told J.D. Hayworth on Newsmax TV. "Not only does he fly into Jerusalem, he then goes and visits the Western Wall – the first time a president has ever done that.

"After that, he tells us about the American commitment that his administration has to the Jewish state of Israel. He talks about defeating terrorism, and what he did in Saudi Arabia, I fully supported, because he reaffirmed our commitment to the Sunni allies."

In addition, Nunberg said, Trump has received concessions from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"Prime Minister Netanyahu is allowing Palestinians to build more of, I won't call them settlements, but to build out more buildings, and he's going to allow Palestinians to start moving through the Jewish state of Israel for work," he told Hayworth.

"You have to remember during the campaign [Trump] gave an interview to The Associated Press and said that Israel and the Palestinians were both going to have to make concessions. A lot of people on the debate stage then attacked him.

"[But] he's the guy who thinks 13 steps ahead, 20 steps ahead, and he wants to make this deal. Does he want to make the deal because he wants to make the deal and be the ultimate dealmaker? Yes, but he also believes in the Jewish state of Israel, the security of Israel, and that there needs to be a two-state solution."

Nunberg said Trump's trip has been amazing because he has "built confidence" on both sides.

"Not only did he go into the West Bank and he gave a commitment to American support for the Palestinian Authority, but he also told them 'I want you to stop using American money to fund the families of terrorists,'" he said.

"I have never seen somebody like this give this type of commitment. I don't think I've ever seen it by even George W. Bush, who also was an amazing friend of the Jewish state of Israel. This trip has been a massive success so far for the Trump administration. He's surprising everyone.

"You read these public reports [that] he wasn't preparing for this. He obviously did, and the trip was prepared, by the way, masterfully by his whole staff."
