Hillary Clinton is so dishonest she leaves a cloud of dust behind her — just like Pig-Pen in the comic strip "Peanuts," political law attorney and conservative activist Cleta Mitchell tells Newsmax TV.

In an interview on "The Steve Malzberg Show, Mitchell said Clinton's latest mea culpa on her use of a private email account doesn't have the ring of truth.

At a campaign stop in Iowa, Clinton, the Democratic presidential frontrunner, said: "My use of personal email was allowed by the State Department. It clearly wasn't the best choice. I should have used two emails -- one personal, one for work -- and I take responsibility for that decision."

"I don't think the excuse is going to fly at all. It's not flying now because the whole notion of Hillary Clinton and honesty is an oxymoron and the voters are coming to that conclusion," Mitchell said.

"William Safire, the late columnist for the New York Times, once during one of the Clinton scandals, I think at the beginning of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, referred to Hillary Clinton as a congenital liar. Now that's not a very nice thing to say, but actually that is the truth.

"She is a congenital liar and she's a little bit like that character in 'Peanuts,' Pig-Pen, where he had a little cloud of dust follows him everywhere he goes. Dishonesty just seems to circulate like a little cloud of dust around Hillary Clinton everywhere she goes."

Pig-Pen, one of the most beloved characters in "Peanuts," is pals with Charlie Brown and is always seen in a pair of filthy overalls with a cloud of dust trailing him.

Mitchell, a partner at Foley & Gardner LLP, whose clients include tea party groups and Republican senators, recalled Clinton's reaction when the scandal involving her husband President Bill Clinton and White House intern Monica Lewinsky first emerged.

"She went onto the 'Today' show and she said, this is all a lie, this is part of the vast right-wing conspiracy," Mitchell told Steve Malzberg.

"That's where that term came from and, of course, we now know that was a complete lie."
