Newsmax TV presents the compelling, true-life story of a Union soldier and his wife, told through a series of heartfelt, handwritten notes in "Love & Valor: The Intimate Civil War Letters."
This compelling documentary, narrated by Tony Award-winning actor Brian Dennehy, airs Saturday at 5 p.m. ET And it's only on
Newsmax TV, America's No. 1 source for breaking news and hard-hitting opinion.
"Love & Valor: The Intimate Civil War Letters" chronicles the lives of Jacob Ritner, a Union captain from Iowa, and his wife, Emeline, through actual letters they wrote to each other.
The movie tells of their unshakable devotion to each other, their patriotism, and loneliness, and the anguish they suffer at the death of loved ones, and slavery.
Emeline was raising four small children, managing the family farm as Jacob went to war, witnessing the horrifying consequences of battle.
Jacob and Emeline's great great grandson, Charles Larimer, who wrote and directed the documentary and narrates with Dennehy, also reveals the strange story of how he discovered his ancestors' letters.
It's a different take on the Civil War — one that will give you and your family new insights into the turbulent history of the United States.
"Love & Valor: The Intimate Civil War Letters" adds to the diverse programming featured on
