Childhood vaccinations for viruses like measles and chicken pox should not be mandatory and, in fact, may cause serious health problems, says board certified neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock, editor of The Blaylock Wellness Report.
"Absolutely not. It takes away one of the fundamental rights of people, individuals and families and certainly parents — and that is the protection of their children," Blaylock said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on

"You should not have the right to force my child to receive a vaccine when I think that that could cause severe damage to my child.
"There's compelling scientific evidence that vaccines are not as safe as they're being proposed. In fact, there [can be] significant, serious problems, including death, seizures, encephalitis and severe brain damage. This is well documented in medical literature."
The vaccine debate has become a political hot potato, with lawmakers bitterly debating their safety. Vaccine opponents are being blamed for an outbreak of measles in the U.S. As of last Sunday, 102 measles cases had been reported in 14 states this year.
Unfortunately, Blaylock said, much of the media hypes vaccinations as being completely safe and necessary.
"The parents, in the case of every vaccine, should have that choice. Nobody should be forcibly vaccinated," he said.
"If you could demonstrate that vaccines never caused serious neurological damage or caused serious health issues, then fine, that's one thing.
"But they can't demonstrate that and what we're seeing is a dramatic increase in autoimmune diseases since they've added so many vaccines to the vaccine schedule. Those include increases in neurological damage and impairment in learning, memory and speech.
"So we're seeing a dramatic increase in all of these disorders as the number of vaccines increased," he said.
"Children are getting 46 to 50 vaccines before they even start school and most of these diseases for which they're being vaccinated against, the risk to the child and to the community is extremely, extremely small."
Blaylock said the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as drug manufacturers that make billions of dollars in profits from the vaccines, claim they are 99 percent effective.
"Well, the results from studies show it's nowhere near that effective and when we look at these so-called outbreaks, in almost every case, most of the children had been vaccinated and, in many cases, fully vaccinated for the measles vaccine," he said.
In one case, 100 percent of the children had been vaccinated and yet they still had an outbreak. They are not telling the truth when they say that you're fully protected, because you're not.
"Where measles is a real killer — in impoverished countries — nutrition is the reason … and that if you give these children vitamin A, for instance, the death rate is cut by almost 60 percent."
