Hillary Clinton's request that her supporters sign loyalty pledges before being allowed into her Cleveland campaign event sounds like something a cult would demand, Grover Norquist, founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform, tells Newsmax TV.

"She should be running a campaign not a cult," Norquist said Tuesday to host J.D. Hayworth on Newsmax Prime.

"She should be explaining to people why they should vote for her not getting them to commit to vote for her before she talks to them."

Norquist is particularly disturbed by Clinton's call for gun control and a statement she made as First Lady that gun enthusiasts should face a 25 percent tax on their purchases.

"[It was] from her congressional testimony in 1993, her first year as first lady. The question she was asked by Sen. [Bill] Bradley of New Jersey was 'would you support his idea of a 25 percent' – not $25 – '25 percent tax on gun sales?' And she said yes," Norquist said.

"She ended her conversation saying 'and that's my personal view' … So she was not giving you Bill Clinton's views, she was giving you her thoughts.

"She said 25 percent tax on guns is a way to discourage people, particularly low income people, from being able to defend themselves."

Norquist added: "If I was her, I'd get those pledges now before she has to answer questions about her tax policy."
