Trump: We Were Better Off With Hussein in Iraq

By    |   Wednesday, 18 June 2014 01:03 PM

The United States was better off with Saddam Hussein in power in Iraq than it is today, Donald Trump said on Newsmax TV’s "America's Forum."

The outspoken billionaire founder and CEO of Trump Corp. explained that "whether you liked him or not, all [Hussein] did was kill terrorists."

"He would kill them, like, in two seconds. And frankly, we were a lot better off with him than the situation that you have going on right now. It's a disgrace. So, we spent $2 trillion, we lost thousands and thousands of lives, not to even mention the probably millions of lives lost on the other side.

"We have absolutely nothing for it, and now they've raided us, they've taken our equipment, they're killing soldiers, they're executing everybody that's in their way."

Trump railed against President Barack Obama, whom he called incompetent, and blamed his weak leadership for the myriad crises America is facing.

"Our country is an absolute mess, and we're laughed at all over the world," Trump said. "I spend a lot of time in other places, and they have no respect for our country whatsoever. They have no respect for Obama, no respect for our country. They don't even view us as a factor anymore."

America's enemies are funding the terrorist group ISIS — the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq — that is invading Iraq, says Trump, and the Iraqi soldiers have caved like "a bunch of cowards," handing over hundreds of billions of dollars of U.S.-purchased equipment.

Now "the bad guys" are taking the oil, something Trump said he recommended the United States do when it decided to have a presence in the region.

"We shouldn't have been there, but if we were going to be there, and if we were going to be over there, take the oil before Iran gets it or before the other militants get it. And what happened now is the worst nightmare because they've gone and they've taken the oil," he said. "They're right now in the process of taking the oil.

"They have lots of land, and they have lots of support, and they have lots of money, and they have our equipment, and we're a very stupidly run country."

The president’s decision to try Ahmed Abu Khattala, the accused mastermind of the 2012 Benghazi attacks, in civilian court is "a terrible idea," said Trump, adding that "they're going to be in court for 20 years before they do anything."

"It's absolutely a disgrace. It's unfair to whatever city they're going to be bringing him. This guy should be tried in a military court, they should not have to read him his rights, and frankly, it should be a very quick trial."

Even Abu Khattala's capture won't elevate Obama's sinking popularity, Trump predicted, saying the mounting scandals that have occurred on Obama's watch, namely Obamacare and its "$5 billion website," will prevent him from ever recovering.

Open U.S. borders are to blame for the swath of illegal immigrants flooding the country, many of them unaccompanied minors, and America is now a debtor nation, Trump said.

He plans to wait for the results of the November elections before deciding whether to throw his hat into the ring for the presidency in 2016.

"I will say this, our country is in serious trouble," he said, predicting a GOP sweep courtesy of Obamacare. "I've never seen it like this before. We're the laughingstock all over the world."
