The growing email scandal swirling around Hillary Clinton may sink her chances of capturing the White House — but so could rising GOP star Carly Fiorina, says Bill Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard.
"I keep thinking this [email] story has got to do [Clinton] in, or at least provide an excuse for a serious Democrat to get in the race and exploit it," Kristol said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"[Former Maryland Gov.] Martin O'Malley seems to want to run, but then he takes these shots at Hillary — we need change, blah, blah, blah.
"But it's not going to really matter until one of them is going to go after her on this and say, 'Are you kidding? We can't nominate if the nominee is someone who as secretary of state may have broken the law … Is any Democrat going to have the nerve to say that about Hillary Clinton?"

Last week, it was revealed that Clinton wiped her private server clean — the same home server she is said to have used to conduct government business.
Kristol said he continues to believe Clinton is a subpar candidate, who will be "not so strong in the primaries," and "very weak" in the general election.
The GOP has the ability to do something about that — with the right candidate, according to Kristol.
"[Former Florida Gov.] Jeb Bush is the one candidate who will have the most trouble exploiting her weakness … But even he, actually, if he came to it, could beat her," he said.
"But the other candidates would have an even better chance … [former Hewlett-Packard CEO] Fiorina has done a pretty good job … She's done some good damage to Hillary, actually."
Carly said on "Fox News Sunday" that the likelihood she will run for president is "higher than 90 percent."
"We need to make sure we have the right time in place, that we have the right support, that we have the right financial resources lined up, just as all the other candidates have done," she said.
