Allen West: Obama's Islamist Sympathies a 'Slap in the Face' to US

Wednesday, 18 March 2015 07:16 PM EDT

President Barack Obama remains "sympathetic" to Islamists — a "slap in the face" to Americans, says former Rep. Allen West, president of the National Center for Public Analysis.

"We now know through a memo from the director of national intelligence, James Clapper, [that] they have removed Iran and Hezbollah off the terrorist list," West, a Florida Republican, said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

'Yet they were supporting the undermining of Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu in his re-election bid … For whatever reason, I just continue to believe that President Obama has an orientation that is sympathetic to Islamists."

"It is inconsistent with the principles and values of this country and the national security premises of the republic that we call the United States of America, but it is what it is. The evidence is very clear based upon his actions, his policies, his speeches."

West said Obama's sympathies make it clear to him that Americans "need strong voices in the Congress to clearly state their disapproval."

"To take Iran off of the terrorist list, to take Hezbollah off of the terrorist list — think about the families of the Marines who lost their lives in the Beirut bombings … Think about Leon Klinghoffer, his family. He was pushed off the Achille Lauro by the [Palestine Liberation Organization]," West said.

"Think about the CIA station chief and the Marine colonel who was ritually murdered by Hezbollah. Think about the Americans that are being held by Iran right now at this time. It's a slap in the face to the American people."
