A brain drain from the government is responsible for the disastrous rollout of the Obamacare website, former National Economic Council head Larry Summers claims.
Summers, a past president of Harvard University, told Jorge Ramos on "
America with Jorge Ramos" Thursday that it is almost impossible for many well-qualified people to go into government.
"The fact that it takes so long to be confirmed by the Senate, the fact that you have to go through the financial equivalent of a colonoscopy to enter government . . . The fact that there are so many rules and restrictions and bits of hostility towards those who are in government," he explained.
Summers has first-hand experience.
He withdrew his name from the running for chairmanship of the Federal Reserve in September when it became clear that he would have a hard time winning Senate confirmation.
Summers also maintained that talented people are deterred from public service by the barrage of attacks on government employees.
"You know, it is much easier to complain about things than it is to fix them," he said. "It’s much easier to sit in the stands and talk about what the people in the arena are doing than it is to enter the arena themselves."
