Rush Limbaugh: Politico's Carson West Point Story an 'Electronic Lynching'

Rush Limbaugh: Politico's Carson West Point Story an 'Electronic Lynching'

A furious Rush Limbaugh is labeling a Politico story that accuses Ben Carson of lying about a West Point scholarship an "assassination attempt" to end the retired pediatric neurosurgeon's White House bid – staunchly defending the candidate as a victim of an "electronic lynching."

In comments during his national radio show and on social media, the conservative commentator laid into Politico in particular, and "mainstream media" in general for trying to "politically end Ben Carson's bid for the Republican presidential nomination by telling an outright lie and then accusing the campaign of lying and admitting to lying."

The remarks were posted by The Daily Caller.

"Friday, November sixth is the assassination attempt of Ben Carson undertaken by the United States American media," Limbaugh declares.

"Which is horrible, it is despicable, it is infuriating, and I’m telling you it is this kind of thing that is causing a majority of Americans to reject the mainstream media, the establishment political structure of Washington and everything they have to do with."

Limbaugh also took to social media to defend Carson.

We have an electronic lynching being conducted against a Republican African-American candidate by a majority white,...

"You read The Politico story, and the way this is written, you're gonna think that [Carson] has said he attended West Point and he attended on a scholarship and that Politico has found out that he didn't attend," he also writes on his Facebook page.

"That's what they want you to conclude, that he lied about going to West Point. Carson "never said he accepted an invitation to West Point."

"He never applied. He never said he attended," Limbaugh continues. "The only people lying are the Politico. This piece today is a political assassination attempt following on the heels of that CNBC debate."

Limbaugh, in his radio defense of Carson, said it's only the conservative media that is maintaining the balance when it comes to Republicans and conservatives.

"This is exactly what the mainstream media used to be able to get away with when they had a monopoly," he says. "This is what the news was when they had a monopoly. … There was not alternative media correcting the record."

"When the mainstream media set out to destroy you, this is exactly how it happened and they continued to do it hoping to prove to themselves that why still have the ability to do it since their monopoly has been blown.."

Limbaugh called the Carson story in particular, an "electronic lynching being conducted against the Republican African American candidate by a majority white, mainstream American liberal media. Where if you’re not a good liberal and a good African American on their plantation, they are going to take you out. And we are witnessing it. It is the same thing folks that happened to Clarence Thomas."

Carson also went on the defense Friday against CNN, whose reporting questioned his accounts of a troubled youth.

He blasted CNN's investigation of his accounting of the events in his autobiography "Gifted Hands" as a "bunch of lies, attempting, you know to say I'm lying about my history. I think it's pathetic and basically what the media does is they try to get you distracted with all of this stuff so that you don't talk about the things that are important. Because we have so many important things."
